This is my last blog on the “Fear of Change” – probably.
It is amazing how much you do change as you work towards achieving a goal. Many, many times it is the actual process of learning, trying and working towards the goal that is of the greatest value. The value is in the striving – not the achieving. Although the achievement is wonderful in itself, it really is just a way of keeping track.
Also, in the striving for the goal, the actual goal may change. We become different people in our learning and growing and working to achieve. In the process, we may find that what we originally thought we wanted, isn’t really want we want after all.
There is a wonderful quote by C.S. Lewis in the book “Mere Christianity” that refers to this idea. You might find it as encouraging as I did when I first read it. It probably has extra meaning for me because what started this whole “Fear of Change” blog series was our kitchen remodelling.
“God’s work in our lives can be painful, but His ultimate goal is to transform us into something better. Imagine yourself as a living house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised.
But presently He starts knocking the house around in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that he is building quite a different house from the one you thought of –throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building up a palace. He intends to come and live in it himself.”
I think that too many times people pray for things that they want, not realizing that God cannot do FOR them what He can only do THROUGH them.
If we have a strong dream or desire to do something, maybe we are being told that we need to do it. If we will follow the guidelines and exercises that have been given in this whole “Fear of Change” blog series, there is no reason why we can’t eliminate our fears and achieve what our heart’s desire is.
Good Luck. I would love to hear from you as you work towards achieving your goals and dreams!

Hi Sheryl,
Just read the stuff on Fear of change and it was good. It is timely. I am embarking on a big change to become self employed and to promote my business to develop clientelle to sustain my dream. I love to hear things about C.S. Lewis. I watched a movie based on his life but I forgot the name of it. I would love to buy it if I saw it for sale. If you remember the name of the movie if you saw it please let me know.
As ever,
Peggy L
Sorry Peggy, I don’t remember where I got it either. Sheryl
